What is your Hays story?

Since January 2021 I am working at Hays Specialist recruitment as principal recruitment consultant for the IT team. I come from the recruitment sector and when I was looking for my next step when I had several interviews with various parties. I had the best click with the internal recruiter at Hays, but also with my current manager and regional manager. The challenge that I could take up here was what I was looking for: setting up a new market, new business and relationship management to match the right candidates to the vacancies.

In my first months at Hays, I was immediately able to realise my first placements! Here, I get the chance to challenge myself again and to do what I love the most. When I started at Hays, it immediately felt like a warm bath to me; there is a lot of room for entrepreneurship and development, but also for fun with a lot of help from my colleagues!

What do you like most about your current job?

My colleagues. We keep each other sharp to get the best out of ourselves. In my role as principal consultant, I get the space to plan my own days and therefore my own work. Of course I have goals, but these are what motivate me to reach and hopefully exceed them.

In my role, I really feel like an advisor to clients and candidates. I approach new clients myself, open doors and of course keep my promises to make the right match. I am very result-oriented, which is necessary in this job, so I like to do my work well. Contributing to the company result and of course my own goals is what I like about this job.

Which Hays moment will you never forget?

My first placement of course! That was a nice welcome, especially with the experience I already had, it was a milestone. But also the quizzes we recently did with the whole team to get to know each other in a fun and informal way.

What tips can you share with people who want to enter the world of recruitment?

Recruitment is an important part of a business process. To be successful in the commercial recruitment sector you need to be entrepreneurial. The combination of new business, relationship management and making the right matches with candidates and clients demands a lot of energy. You have to be eager to achieve success, but what you 'put in' in terms of energy, you really get out of it. A healthy dose of enthusiasm and perseverance with your own unique approach, and there you have it.
